Some Perspective on the War against Terror, by John Chuckman - Democratic Underground One spectacular event does not justify a vast change in the nation's business and priorities. How easily we pass over the simple fact that proper airline security - something many believed we had - would have prevented the attack. No drums and drama, just practical measures like secure cockpit doors. Calling out a show of the National Guard at airports and authorizing generals to shoot down straying airliners are empty, after-the-fact bluster.
