When I began this blog in 2001, I was appalled by President Bush's headlong rush to an illegal war (we were not in fact under attack). As time wore on and Bush began his assault on the Constitution and any people bold enough to criticize, I believed that "the republic is endangered more by actions of our own government than by those of any terrorist." With the election of a high-minded, compassionate, intelligent man like Barack Obama, my fears have ceased.

Swept Up in a Dragnet, Hundreds Sit in Custody and Ask, 'Why?' An Egyptian who came to the United States five years ago to attend a Florida flight school, Mr. Elfar recently worked as a mechanic for a small airline in St. Louis. He has been in jail for two months and began a hunger strike on Friday to protest his incarceration. -- NY Times
Sometimes there's a connection to the trade center bombers, sometimes not. One man happened to be in line to renew his drivers license at the same time as the suspected ringleader Mohammed Atta. He was Pakistani and bail was denied.
This is an outrage! The Justice department must process these suspects far faster. If they can open up the airports, they can open up the jails.
