When I began this blog in 2001, I was appalled by President Bush's headlong rush to an illegal war (we were not in fact under attack). As time wore on and Bush began his assault on the Constitution and any people bold enough to criticize, I believed that "the republic is endangered more by actions of our own government than by those of any terrorist." With the election of a high-minded, compassionate, intelligent man like Barack Obama, my fears have ceased.

A Frustrated A.C.L.U. Tries to Guide Consulates Through a Thicket . . . Expectations were high for Mr. Romero, a former Ford Foundation executive who is the child of Puerto Rican immigrants and a graduate of Princeton University and Stanford Law School. He has been trying to make his mark quickly.. .
One reason we are in trouble is that the NY Times does not know that an American citizen who moves to New York is not described as an immigrant. OH wait, maybe they meant his parents immigrated to Puerto Rico from, hm, Spain maybe?
