CEOs should be ashamed of themselves

The U.S. is going down the drain, and Bush and Co. are sending us there with their greed, lust for power, and dishonor. Other countries around the world that used to envy and emulate us are averting their eyes, as from an admired relative who has begun burping at the table and babbling about 1937 as if it were last week. Some, however, are are commenting:

""What is lacking in the U.S. is a culture of shame. No C.E.O. in the U.S. is considered a thief if he does something wrong. It is a kind of moral cancer."
--Guido Rossi, a former chairman of Telecom Italia and now one of Italy's most outspoken advocates for modernizing the way companies are run in Europe, quoted in the NY Times, "U.S. Businesses Dim as Models for Foreigners" June 27, 2002

Well, the Republicans have had a pretty good run for their money here, and even if we toss them out, the Supreme Court will continue to press their ideology for years to come. I believe we need a complete overhaul in Congress and the White House-- new president, fresh Congress (including replacing some of the go-along-get-along Democrats like Chris Dodd who has gotten far too comfortable).

We should reinstitute the culture of social responsiblity that even Republicans once showed. The civil society should borrow from the Navy the slogan "You are responsible for your own wake" I guess lately they've taken " wake " to mean a funeral send-off.
