Secret Service doesn't like protests

There was a huge anti-war protest last week in Stockton, California, when the President was there. But the Secret Service made sure Bush didn't see or hear it.

Big rig trailers, buses and other security tactics effectively blocked the view from protest sites to Bush events Friday at Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium and A.G. Spanos Jet Center, sparking charges of unconstitutional interference with protesters' freedom of speech.

Forrest Schmidt, an organizer with International Action Center in San Francisco, said his group got a permit in advance and offered to let police do security checks on the protesters, but to no avail. While local police were cooperative, the Secret Service allowed no signs and no shouting from those in view of the President.

What sort of president is this, who can't deal with the unpleasant truth that more and more people see very little connection between the Trade Center killings and his foreign adventures?
Is the Secret Service acting on orders from the men around Bush to keep him happy in his figurehead role?
