We can't afford Bush's war(s)

Pres. Bush is driving the country deeper and deeper into debt. We cannot afford this big war buildup. We can't afford to fight Iraq or fight Korea -- and certainly not both. Soon our budgetary weakness will become obvious to the world, and we will move from being the world's strongman to being easy pickings for thugs and looters.

The U.S. went into debt for some for previous wars - but also raised taxes - but it was not until the Reagan administration that the tactic of going to war and giving a tax cut to the rich was attempted. As we have seen, the country was plunged deeply into debt.

George Bush senior continued in that direction but at the last minute, caved into Congressional demands for a tax increase to cover some of the debt. The contrast with Bush's action and promises is probably what cost him the election.

Clinton jumped in with tax increases and sharp reductions in expenditures. That along withe the end of all the Cold War military expenses, produced a booming economy.

Now Bush Junior is going back again to the failed Reagan plan: cut taxes and spend the country ever deeper into debt.

What are they thinking of???

For years, the Republicans hounded the Democrats for their "tax and spend" ways. Under Reagan, it became clear that what they really wanted was not to clear the nation of debt, but to drive the poor out of their subsidized apartments and into the alleyways and onto the heating grates of the nation's cities. They have remained there ever since and their numbers are increasing. No more dignity for the poor.

Columnist Paul Krugman wrote in today's New York Times:
... the administration's ever-changing rationale for tax cuts says a lot about its character. If the Bush team never cared about deficits, Mr. Bush's promises of fiscal responsibility were dishonest. On the other hand, if administration officials didn't decide that deficits are O.K. until that belief became convenient, that suggests that they're tough talkers who make excuses when confronted with real problems
.
There is no "compassionate conservatism"
There is no honesty in this administration.
There is no patriotism.
This administration is morally bankrupt and its policies will drive the nation into financial bankruptcy.
