International Women's Day coming upIn many countries, International Women's Day, March 8, is a national holiday. In the united states of texas, it is a day for the likes of Rush Limbaugh to flex their sarcasm muscles and ridicule women. In the Bush winter ranch (Washington, D.C.) they are working up legislation to withdraw some rights from women. Women's equality is not as some think, merely a liberal fancy of the '70s. It represents international law, which Bush will continue to flout at his peril -- at the risk of losing all respect of the international community. The Charter of the United Nations, signed in San Francisco in 1945, was the first international agreement to proclaim gender equality as a fundamental human right. Since then, the Organization has helped create a historic legacy of internationally agreed strategies, standards, programmes and goals to advance the status of women worldwide. Palema
