Joe notices economy is bad

I see where CT Sen. Joe Lieberman has noticed that his good buddy the Republican president is on the wrong course economically. A statement on his website (which maybe he is hoping that Bush wont read and get mad at him) said, in part:
Today we learned two pieces of bad news. Our government's projected deficits are now approaching $200 billion annually-not including the cost of a potential war in Iraq or of the President's so-called stimulus plan. And our overall economic growth slowed dramatically in the final quarter of last year to 0.7 percent-just short of recession level.
Behind those numbers is a stark and sobering reality: this President has no economic growth strategy. He only has a repetitive repertoire of unaffordable, unfair, and ineffective tax cuts. It's a deep disappointment to me that after $1.7 trillion in failed cuts passed in 2001, he's making the very same mistake again with a big and bloated new $900 billion plan.

He's right about the economy; Bush is trying to spend us so deep into a hole that we'll never get out. Why would he do that? because then we 'couldn't afford' any social programs. Conservatives hate social programs.
