When I began this blog in 2001, I was appalled by President Bush's headlong rush to an illegal war (we were not in fact under attack). As time wore on and Bush began his assault on the Constitution and any people bold enough to criticize, I believed that "the republic is endangered more by actions of our own government than by those of any terrorist." With the election of a high-minded, compassionate, intelligent man like Barack Obama, my fears have ceased.

In much of the industrialized world, today, May 1, is Labor Day.
In the U.S., the Labor Day holiday was moved to early September because of the inordinate fear of communism inspired by Sen. Joe McCarthy and his witch-hunting HUAC gang back in the 1950s.
It's surprising they didn't switch the red flag stripes to green back then. Nowadays when you don't agree you are called a terrorist instead of a communist. It's always something they hit you over the head with if you get out of line.
