Gay rights

I am a strong supporter of gay rights, and want that in any candidate I support as well.

U.S. Rep Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) supports a comprehensive non-discrimination policy, including non-discrimination based on gender identity. He believes that same sex couples and opposite sex couples should be equal in the eyes of the law. All benefits and legal entitlements available to heterosexual couples should be available to homosexual couples.

Here is my view:
It seems to me that while religious organizations may choose not to bless unions of gay couples, the state has no business promoting a biblical view that is seriously outdated anyway. The state should not get into the 'spiritual' side of marriage, in fact should probably not even use the term 'marriage.' Rather the state should, with its interest in promoting stable families, enable and support longterm relationships between and among people who care about each other in any way. It doesn't have to be about sex at all-- that should be a separate issue for couples to deal with according to their taste and conscience.
