48 US troops killed since war's "end"

The peacekeeping and reconstruction mission in Iraq would be better performed by the UN than by the United States, says Rep. Dennis Kucinich.

From today's Des Moines Register:

It's time to bring American troops home from Iraq, Democratic
presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich said Sunday at a nationally
televised forum in Ottumwa.

"This is the time for us to rejoin the world community, rejoin the
United Nations and get our troops out of there
," said Kucinich, an Ohio
congressman, at a forum hosted by U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa and
televised by C-SPAN. "I don't like the fact that our men and women are
being used for targets
."

Kucinich's comments came as yet another U.S. solider was killed early
Sunday south of Baghdad....Kucinich's call for the return of U.S. troops
stands in contrast to former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, another opponent
of the war, who has said the United States can't withdraw from Iraq now,
because that could lead to chaos.

Given that this war is about controlling the world's oil supplies, which Bush and his men feel they must do in order to keep the oil profits flowing, we could avoid the need for it if we allocated more time, energy and money to renewable energy sources. The oil cartel has made sure through lobbying in Congress that other sources of energy get short shrift.

We need a presidential candidate with vision, and Kucinich is the one.

Thanks to advances in renewables, there are fewer technical obstacles to energy independence for our country. There are many political obstacles -- but the oil, auto and electric utility corporations won't be directing energy policy in a Kucinich White House. I will spur research and investment in "alternative" energy sources -- hydrogen, solar, wind and ocean -- and make them mainstream. Clean energy technologies will produce new jobs. We can easily double our energy from renewable sources by 2010. And we can soon have hybrid and fuel cell cars dominating the market. -- Kucinich position statement

With statements like that, you can imagine how those industries will come down on this man. Right now they have just the guy they want- compliant and not asking too many questions. Not as good an actor as Reagan was, but they have to take what they can get.

The American public, however need not sit idly by while our future is mortgaged to the hilt to pay for the equivalent of gambling debts. Look for a presidential candiate who tells the truth, isn't afraid, and makes sense. don't think We can't or He can't. Think about what you want, what this country needs, and the work for it!
