In 'fair and balanced' decisionFranken mocks Fox;'Parody is a form of artistic expression protected by the First Amendment,' [Chin] said. 'The keystone to parody is imitation. In using the mark, Mr. Franken is clearly mocking Fox.' Judge Chin chided Fox News for bringing its suit against satirist Al Franken and called it ironic that a [so-called] news organization that ought to defend the First Amendment was trying to undermine it. I say Fox has revealed itself for what it is: a conservative tool designed to promote liars and the lies they promote -- the biggest lie of all being in their ridiculous slogan 'fair and balanced.' How do you suppose it was decided that Fox News should have sole rights to a phrase like that? I was reading some discussion about this suit (before the decision) and here's one of the most charming remarks I've seen about Franken: I haven't seen or read AF's new book, but I thought he was very fair when he called Rush Limbaugh a big fat idiot. If he want to be balanced he should have added self-aggrandizing blowhard too. [Posted by: mark on August 12, 2003 10:15 PM] It was wonderful the way a ton of bloggers made fun of Fox by taking the phrase fair and balanced for their blogs and challenging Fox to do anything about it. Blah3.com : Free Speech for the New Century kept a running list which looks to have topped 500 links. Palema
