When I began this blog in 2001, I was appalled by President Bush's headlong rush to an illegal war (we were not in fact under attack). As time wore on and Bush began his assault on the Constitution and any people bold enough to criticize, I believed that "the republic is endangered more by actions of our own government than by those of any terrorist." With the election of a high-minded, compassionate, intelligent man like Barack Obama, my fears have ceased.

Sunday afternoon, Hartford City Councilwoman Eliabeth Horton-Scheff addressed riders and supporters of the 2003 annual CT AIDS Bike Tour. In the course of her talk, she urged people to keep getting in touch with her, to let her know what they needed and whether she was doing her job right.
She has a perfect sense of humor: self-deprecation residing on top of self-confidence.

Once you get in office, you start getting all this mail addressed to 'the Honorable' and you start to believe it's true'
