A tacticGIven that it does appear America the Beautiful is now America the Bought and Paid For, what can be done about it? One thing to do is raise consciousness. Adbusters has embarked on the Unbrand America campaign, and they suggest covering the urban landscape with the 'unbrand' logo -- a black spot. Adbusters has a number of campaigns going on that aim to undo some of the damage done to community values by the total commercialization of our lives. Campaigns range from Reclaiming Urban Space through Buy Nothing Day, Turn-off TV Day, and Commercial-Free Schools to The Big Question (Is Economic 'Progress' Killing the Planet?). Check 'em out.
