Elizabeth Edwards (Sen. Edwards' wife)

 
Mrs. Edwards goes to a lot of campaign events separate from her husband, so that between the two of them they can reach more people. But she is thrilled to watch her husband address a crowd:
I have had people come up after an event in tears with the recognition that they have just seen what they have so long wanted: a leader who reaches out to the very best in each of us: the positive, the hopeful, the good.
I got the feeling so many times that people were so joyous, so enraptured really, because they had given up hope that such a leader would emerge again in their lifetimes, with the seemingly unstoppable decline in the political debate and the muffling of American voices in democracy.
