BBC and others poke fun at US officials![]() ![]() We are the laughing stock of the world, it often appears, and yet half the country apparently wants George Bush to continue as our president. Hard to believe. Yet, now that I think of it, it is not the U.S. they are laughing at, but the Republicans. During the last administration, the world laughed not at Bill Clinton's sexual peccadilloes, but at the GOP for making such a mountain out of the molehill of the president's private life.[Note, I can't say I approve of Clinton's behavior, but in general I leave an official's private life alone. This becomes less true the more it conflicts with his public pronouncements.] I came across BBC page while googling Rumsfeld, whom I had looked up because I noticed for the first time the similarity between him and fictional White House Chief of Staff Leo McGarry (John Spenser) on West Wing -- see this picture and other fashion statements at Jest Magazine's Photoshopped Banana Republican ad.
