When I began this blog in 2001, I was appalled by President Bush's headlong rush to an illegal war (we were not in fact under attack). As time wore on and Bush began his assault on the Constitution and any people bold enough to criticize, I believed that "the republic is endangered more by actions of our own government than by those of any terrorist." With the election of a high-minded, compassionate, intelligent man like Barack Obama, my fears have ceased.

I think I know why older people often seem more conservative than younger ones. It's because they don't have that much time ahead of them to repair errors in judgment, so they proceed more cautiously.
A young man can go ahead and paint his house a bizarre color because if he doesn't like it, he knows here will be other paint jobs in the future. The older man wonders if his money will run out before he dies and suspects, or fears, that this might be his last can of paint.
