When I began this blog in 2001, I was appalled by President Bush's headlong rush to an illegal war (we were not in fact under attack). As time wore on and Bush began his assault on the Constitution and any people bold enough to criticize, I believed that "the republic is endangered more by actions of our own government than by those of any terrorist." With the election of a high-minded, compassionate, intelligent man like Barack Obama, my fears have ceased.

Looks like the Republicans aim to push the discussion from why didn't they do something about the renegade congressman sooner to -- "Gee the Dems knew about this some time ago, why did they save it for just before the election?"
If so, maybe one reason is that election time has been, lately, the only time the press offers the alternative views of the out party, feeling a sudden need for balance.
But is it so? A progressive good government group, CREW, was sent those emails back in the summer and forwarded them to the FBI, requesting an inquiry. Nothing happened.
The CREW site has the emails and some IMs on file there, so you can judge for yourself if Foley was culpable. The kid came across to me in an IM exchange (as far as I read) as an affable dope; Foley like Socartes "corrupting the morals of youth" but with no apparent philsophical purpose, just self gratification. He used that kid like a porn magazine.
